Quickly launching an eCommerce experience for a manufacturer

How we rapidly delivered a new eCommerce experience & unlocked revenue for a SC-based manufacturing company.

eCommerce Case Study

Introduction

The company we worked with for this project has designed a novel tile product that makes it easier to install high quality backsplashes and shower/tub surrounds in homes. They’ve grown significantly over the past several years with surge of home buying, building, and flipping.

The company has primarily been a B2B business – selling to large contractors and distributors nationally. Earlier this year they launched a marketing campaign that revealed a large demand for their product from end consumers including homeowners, home flippers, and small contractors. This was a huge opportunity for their business, but they had no way to sell direct-to-consumer.

We partnered with them to rapidly develop the strategy, design, build and launch a brand new eCommerce experience in less than 8 weeks. This unlocked a whole revenue stream for their business by expanding their capabilities and tapping into a new customer segment.

How we approached the work

We mobilized with several working sessions to rapidly understand their business and customers. We also analyzed their competitors to identify their unique value proposition and differentiators, then quickly moved into rapid envisioning and strategy mode.

Together with the company’s team, we decided to leverage Shopify and build the eCommerce experience independently of their main site to get to market faster and capture this revenue opportunity. Our team moved swiftly into design mode, prototyping the entire experience in less than 2 weeks. Once aligned on the design, we shifted gears into building the experience while simultaneously developing the launch plan in several rapid workshops.

We partnered with them to rapidly develop the strategy, design, build and launch a brand new eCommerce experience in less than 8 weeks. This unlocked a whole revenue stream for their business by expanding their capabilities and tapping into a new customer segment.

Successfully launching to consumers

At Week 6 we soft launched to a pilot group of consumers who had strongly expressed interest during the prior marketing campaign. Over the next 2 weeks, we quickly tested functionality and messaging to drive the best results.

Then on Week 8, we launched publicly with a paid media campaign to drive consumers to the eCommerce experience and successfully convert them to loyal, happy customers.

The outcome

Through our partnership, we delivered some serious outcomes for the manufacturing company, which included:

  • Clear vision for a brand new eCommerce experience.
  • A greater understanding of their target customers.
  • Proven strategies for a successful eCommerce experience.
  • Sales and revenue growth with a new customer segment.

We really enjoyed this fast-paced engagement and look forward to being long-term strategic partners with this company as they enter this next wave of growth.
